My Role

Overview
The Simple mode originated from a task I was given to help increase the conversion rate using UX. I collaborated with the team using my gut feeling to find a solution, which led to the creation of the Simple mode. This mode simplifies the UI, making it easier to understand and lighter in appearance. It also eliminates additional data that I perceive as being more relevant for experienced traders, in order to reduce complexity for new users.
Objective
The challenge at hand is to increase the conversion rate of token swaps and to extend our target audience to users who don't focus on advanced charts for swapping.
Research & Analysis
As a team, including myself, we frequently trade in DeFi. This project primarily arose from our collective gut feeling. We discussed and assessed that the development effort required wasn't substantial and it was feasible to explore this approach. Consequently, we agreed to leverage this intuition-driven strategy in our work. Thus, we didn't conduct any external tests. Instead, we used our team members as user personas for both research and testing purposes.
Wireframe
This feature is an adaptation of something that previously existed, and I didn't want to expend a lot of resources on it. Consequently, I skipped the wireframe part and moved straight to adjusting the UI at the visual stage.
Visual Design
Creating the Simple mode was an extension of the original version, which we defined as the Advanced mode. I removed certain functions and displays such as Market trade, Favorite bar, and Liquidity info. These are metrics more suited for advanced traders and also slow down the website's performance. To align with our objectives, I chose to omit this information.
The original visual (Advanced mode) has components placed closely together and compact to allow traders to see comprehensive information within a single view port, facilitating decision-making. For the Simple mode, I removed the function of drawing lines on the trading view and redesigned the component placement to have larger gaps. I also used a transparent background and minimized the use of borderlines. This makes the UI communicate simplicity and lightness.
Result & Impact
After releasing the feature, I monitored and measured the results for 2 months. It was found that the feature I designed had a high conversion rate of 36%, which is twice as much as the previous (Advance mode). This is considered to have achieved the set goal.
After that, I took this data to discuss with the stakeholders and the team. As a result, we have many more ideas to build upon from this feature.
