My Role

Product Designer

Background

Thai Airways aimed to revamp and redesign their application to enhance user convenience and support their business recovery plan. The new application would provide users with easier access to various airline services.

Working Process
Given the scale of the Thai Airways app and its status as a national airline brand, the project involved numerous stakeholders. We began by discussing the requirements for various functions and features within the application, understanding the ultimate goals and objectives. The process started with presenting the mood and tone to Thai Airways' management, which was then developed into the application.

Wireframe
I began by drafting the Information Architecture (IA) to outline the overall structure of the application and delegate tasks to the team. This involved planning which features would be included in the initial phase and which would follow in subsequent phases. The IA was reviewed and iterated upon based on team feedback until a solid version was achieved. We then moved on to wireframing, researching competing airlines and applications outside the industry to gather design ideas and adapt them to our approach. I was primarily responsible for the IA and the My Trip page, among others. For the My Trip page, I aimed to evoke a sense of adventure and luxury by designing it with images of landmarks from various countries, tailored to each user's destination. I also managed the in-flight experience features, including meal ordering, check-in, and boarding pass display.

Visual/UI
The UI or visual design was the most challenging part, as it required a deep understanding of the brand and clear communication of its essence. This involved collaborating with multiple stakeholders, mostly at the management level. I designed the UI to align with Thai Airways' branding while incorporating creative elements to perfect the application. For the My Trip section, I researched landmark images from different countries to enhance the user's travel experience.

Challenges
This project was substantial, with major challenges in designing an application that met user needs and effectively conveyed the evolved Thai Airways brand. Dealing with numerous senior stakeholders required a combination of soft and hard skills to navigate the complexities of the project successfully.
